Required supplies: Sewing machine set for free motion quilting
Thread (top and bobbin)
2-4 prepared practice quilt sandwiches (for each, take about a 24” long piece of muslin, open it at the fold, place batting inside, spray batting with adhesive and close it back up. Flip the whole sandwich over and repeat on the back side. This will give you one 18” x 24” practice sandwich; a great working size.
Sketch pad or paper for doodling **THIS IS IMPORTANT****
Helpful supplies: - Machine extension bed
- Machine quilting gloves or Grip-Its
- One 24” straight edge quilting ruler
- One 6” or 8” square ruler
- One marking tool (quilting tool, pen or pencil)
We will use the rotary rulers and marking tools to draw blocks and sashing on your quilt sandwich for stitching the techniques taught. Your instructor will have some on hand but it may be more expeditious to have your own as well.
Most of these supplies (except fabrics and sketch pad) are available at the Sewing Center of Cheyenne!
Let me tell you about myself:
My name is Penny Olive and I have lived in Cheyenne since 1991. I have been quilting since about 2003 and have a love and passion for free motion quilting. I began my free motion quilting adventure on my Janome Quilter’s Companion sewing machine which had a 6” throat, and progressed in a short time to completing quilts from wall hangings to king size bed quilts professionally. I have had my own and customer quilts displayed at both the Cheyenne Heritage Quilters quilt show and the Laramie County Fair. I have also won several awards for my quilting; my joy is teaching so others can enjoy the skill I love so much.
NOTE: Prior to class, please make sure you are familiar with the use of your sewing machine and that it is in good working condition. It is a good idea to bring your user manual with you to class.
IF YOUR SEWING MACHINE NEEDS A TUNE-UP, SEWING CENTER OF CHEYENNE, 307-778-2717 can service it within a day or two!!
