Beginning Free Motion Quilting!  $50

With Instructor Penny Olive

Learn the “ins and outs” of free motion quilting and how to complete any size of project on your sit down or domestic sewing machine.  Your instructor uses a process she developed and coined “Quilting Calesthenics”:  a method that uses simple and familiar movements to teach control of your hands, fabric and machine.

This is a great and fast way to start free motion quilting!  By the end of the day you will have not only head knowledge but hands-on experience to go home and enjoy building your free motion skills with simple filler designs, flowers and even leaves.

Class Times

10am-4pm  with 1 hour for lunch and breaks as needed

(PLEASE BE PRESENT AT 9:30 FOR SET-UP)

What do you need?

-  A Sewing machine with feed dogs that drop

-  A Free motion quilting foot (aka hopping foot) – open toe works best

-  A Machine quilting or topstich needle (size 80/12)

-  Thread

-      Top thread to contrast your quilt sandwich (Aurifil works great!)

-      Bobbins (two or three wound, contrast top thread AND sandwich)

-  Quilt sandwiches (2 – 4)

-      Purchase inexpensive muslin that is 36” wide.  Cut a 24” length.   Slip a piece of low loft batting, approximately 18” x 24” inside and secure with

either 505 spray adhesive or pins sparingly placed.

-  Some type of product used for gripping your fabric (i.e. Machingers or other gloves, Grip Its, Martelli Quilting Ring)

-  Machine extension bed.  This will help reduce drag on the fabric when quilting.

Let me tell you about myself

My name is Penny Olive and I have lived in Cheyenne since 1991.  I have been quilting since about

2003 and have a love and passion for free motion quilting.  I began my free motion quilting adventure on my Janome Quilter’s Companion sewing machine

which had a 6” throat, and progressed in a short time to completing quilts from wall hangings to king size bed quilts professionally.  I have had my quilts

displayed at the Cheyenne Heritage Quilters quilt show (two customer quilts won first place awards in 2017) and many of my customers have entered their

quilts in the Laramie County Fair.

I look forward to having you in class!

NOTE:  Prior to class, please make sure you are familiar with the use of your sewing machine and that it is in good working condition.

It is a good idea to bring your user manual with you to class.

We look forward to seeing you!
